As composers, we have often felt the need to integrate the complexity of results derived from computer-aided composition with the logics of real-time interaction. While very developed tools are available in each field, we did not find a way to easily bridge them. Moreover, our perception is that this need is shared by an increasingly large number of composers. bach – automated composer’s helper is an attempt to answer this problem: a library of Max externals and patches aimed to bring sophisticated tools for musical notation and formalization into the real-time world, along with a data structure capable to support the complexity of musical representation.
