Return from India 2 :
“FKBeen”: hybrid bass and rudra veena module with Modalys

A composer and instrumentalist, Floy Krouchi draws on traditional Indian music to create an augmented electric bass with integrated sensors: the FKBass. Last January, Robert Piéchaud accompanied Floy Krouchi in India to the FKBass Holograms residence in Bombay and Pune .
They worked on two directions of research: the modelling (with Modalys) of certain aspects of the rudraveena, a quintessential instrument of the Indian musical tradition, and also the exploration of Indian microtonality and temperaments thanks to a completely redesigned version of The Snail software.
It is this session, they will present the prototype of the modalys module done for the Fkbass named “FKbeen”, after the traditional name of the Rudra Veena “ the Been”.
with the support of audio samples and videos recorded on site with the late master of Rudra Veena Pandit Hindraj Divekar, Jyoti Hegde and live demonstrations by Floy Krouchi.

Robert Piéchaud is a composer, musical typographer and developer, and joined Ircam in 2012. Within the S3AM team, he leads the development of Modalys and Snail, and also works on aspects related to real-time and active control of musical instruments (hybrid instruments).

Floy Krouchi
Sound artist, bassist and electro-acoustic composer, Floy Krouchi probes the potential of new technologies in sound creation. With "Sonic Totem", interactive sound sculpture, she questions the relationship nature-human-machine as well as the function of the artifact as a magic object. In parallel, Floy develops the FKBass, a bass augmented with integrated technology and explores the potential of new, lutheries through her electronic bass solo."Bass Holograms", which she performs internationally.
