Mäander, pour quatuor à cordes et électronique en temps réel

Comme une rivière qui coule sans direction visible, cette pièce erre à travers le temps et l’espace, saisissant des phénomènes particuliers de la nature : la photographie d’un arbre est utilisée comme un filtre, le comportement d’un vol d’abeilles organise la diffusion du son et les voix de chauve-souris, trop aigues pour la perception humaine, sont transposées pour être incluses dans la pièce. Les sons d’instruments à cordes réels et virtuels se mêlent à ces éléments.
Les instrumentistes, surtout le premier violon qui est prolongé par un traitement de signal en temps réel, interagissent avec les sons électro-acoustiques, créant et explorant ainsi des zones de transition. La vitesse de la spatialisation des sons et le spectre des sons synthétiques sont directement contrôlés par la hauteur et la dynamique du premier violon. Mäander a été réalisé au SeaM (Studio für Elektroakustische Musik Weimar).

Mäander, for string quartet and live electronics

Like a river without obvious direction, the composition meanders through time and space, focussing on specific phenomena found in nature: a photograph of a tree is used as a filter structure, the behaviour of swarms organizes the ambisonic sound diffusion and the voices of bats - normally too high for human perception - are transposed to become part of the composition. The sounds of real and virtual string instruments interweave with these elements.
The instrumentalists, especially the first violin which is extended by real time signal processing, interact with the electroacoustic sounds, creating and exploring zones of transition. The speed of spatial sound movements or the spectra of synthetic sounds, for example, are directly controlled by the pitch and volume of the first violin. Mäander was realized at SeaM (Studio für Elektroakustische Musik Weimar).
